“ Makis Ablianitis gehört in seiner griechischen Heimat zu den populärsten Gitarristen. Seine experimentelle Mischung aus Jazz und traditioneller griechischer Musik trifft im Jahr 2000 mit der Veröffentlichung der CD «Bahar» den Zeitgeist. 2004 lässt er dieses Projekt noch einmal aufleben, doch wagt er sich dismal aus dem Studio hinaus und spielt «Bahar» live ein. «Bahar – Live under the Sky» heißt das Album folgerichtig und was im Studio gut funktionierte, ist live eine Offenbarung. Neben seinem meisterhaften Gitarrenspiel, das oftmals an John McLaughlin erinnert, finden sich zahlreiche multikulturelle Komponenten in seiner Musik. Die armenische Duduk, die indische Bansuri-Flöte, Dudelsack, aber auch Keybord und Percussion stehen ebenfalls zu Auswahl. So gelingt es Ablianitis einen Bogen zu spannen vom Balkan, über den Nahen Osten bis hin nach Indien. Die polyrhythmischen Kompositionen lassen schnell bekannte Hörgewohnheiten schmelzen. Man kann sich entweder dem traurigen Klang der Duduk hingeben oder zum ausgelassen Tanz aufstehen, sobald Ablianitis seine Akustikgitarre in Bewegung bringt. «Bahar – Live Under the Sky» ist in musikalischer Hinsicht eine emotionale Achterbahnfahrt. Aber wie das bei Achterbahnfahrten häufig vorkommt, ruft man hinterher oft: “ Noch mal! ”
